Celebrate an ancestor's contribution to their community
For all the years I was old enough to know my grandmother, she held a yearly tradition at Christmastime with a lifelong friend. Cookie Day was started around the time of World War II, when Leona and she hosted an open house with Christmas cookies. They were loved so much they did it again and again, until it because one of the favorite holiday traditions in the small town where I grew up.
By the time I was old enough to help, the day had grown to a weekend, and while they did it on the same weekend, they each held it in their own home, simply to accommodate all the people who wanted to come. Our town had 900 people more or less, and I am positive that the entire town went to one house or the other.
What a fabulous tradition! Please tell me you have a copy of their cookie recipe book mentioned in the piece 🤞🏻
